Early Life and Career

Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke is a fourth-generation Texan born in El Paso on September 26, 1972. He earned a bachelor's degree from Columbia University and a law degree from the University of Chicago Law School. After graduation, O'Rourke returned to El Paso to establish a small business.

Political Career

In 2005, O'Rourke was elected to the El Paso City Council, where he served until 2011. In 2012, he successfully ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives, representing Texas's 16th congressional district from 2013 to 2019. O'Rourke gained national recognition during his unsuccessful 2018 challenge to incumbent Republican Senator Ted Cruz.

Governorship Campaign

In November 2022, O'Rourke faced off against incumbent Republican Governor Greg Abbott in the gubernatorial election. Despite a spirited campaign, O'Rourke ultimately lost the race to Abbott.

Personal Life

O'Rourke is married to Amy Hoover Sanders, a strategist and former photographer. They have three children.

Political Positions

O'Rourke is considered a moderate Democrat, with a focus on economic populism, social justice, and gun control measures. He has advocated for universal healthcare, affordable housing, and increased access to education.
